About Grace Alvarez Sesma
Grace Alvarez Sesma, born in Mexico of Yaqui descent, was called to the path of curanderismo (a traditional Mexican indigenous healing system) in childhood, influenced by an aunt who was a curandera and an uncle known as a huesero, a traditional healer working with bone, joint, and muscle issues.
In 2013, she led a successful campaign that helped stop The Walt Disney Company from trademarking Día de Muertos. Today, Grace serves as a practitioner of traditional indigenous medicine, a cultural educator, and a social justice advocate with over four decades of experience. She sits on the Practitioners Council of the Consciousness and Healing Initiative and developed the Traditional Indigenous Medicine curriculum for the Academy of Integrative Health & Medicine’s BIPOC Fellowship Program.
